Our Timber & Building department sits at the heart of our Trade operation, supporting customers who rely on us for quality products, efficient service, and practical advice. This is a hands-on environment where teamwork matters and no two days are quite the same.

About the Role

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity working 40 hours per week across both the Trade Counter and Timber Yard. The roster may be structured across either four or five working days and includes early starts, late finishes, and weekend work. Flexibility to meet the operational needs of the department is required. December keeps us on our toes, and we need the whole team in action. For this reason, annual leave takes a break during our December blackout period.

This is a practical, trade-focused role involving daily order picking and fulfilment, forklift operation, customer service, and support across all aspects of the department. You’ll use computer systems and trade-related software to process orders accurately and keep customers moving.

We’re looking for someone with practical timber knowledge, ideally including an understanding of which timber products are suitable for different building applications. You’ll also need to be confident learning new systems and developing broader product and operational knowledge through training.

This is a physically demanding role involving regular handling of timber, building materials, and trade products, particularly during our busy spring and summer period. Remuneration will reflect the successful candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and overall suitability for the role.

Key Responsibilities

• Picking, packing, and fulfilling trade orders accurately
• Operating a forklift safely and confidently to move timber and other materials
• Assisting trade and retail customers with timber and building products
• Providing practical product advice and solutions
• Processing orders and transactions using computer systems and trade-related software
• Coordinating customer collections and deliveries
• Replenishing stock and maintaining merchandising standards
• Keeping the Trade Counter and Timber Yard safe, tidy, and organised
• Supporting all areas of the department as required

What You’ll Bring

• A current forklift licence is mandatory, with relevant forklift operating experience highly desirable
• A full New Zealand driver licence is required, with support provided to obtain an F endorsement if needed
• Practical timber and building product knowledge, ideally including an understanding of which timber is used for different applications
• Previous experience in building supplies, construction, or another trade-related environment is highly desirable
• Strong numerical skills and confidence working with measurements, quantities, and product calculations
• Confidence using computer systems and the demonstrated ability to learn new software quickly
• Clear, practical communication skills and a strong customer service focus
• A reliable approach, strong work ethic, and the ability to safely undertake regular, physically demanding work
• Availability to work 40 hours per week, including early starts, late finishes, and weekend work
