Team Member | Gardens Department | Mitre 10 MEGA New Lynn

About the Role

Spring has arrived, our new-season stock is landing, and the Gardens Department is preparing for its busiest trading period. We’re looking for a practical, physically capable team member to work across our Indoor Garden, Outdoor Garden and Power Garden departments. This is a permanent, 32-hour-per-week position, working Sunday to Wednesday, 10:30am to 7:00pm.

Before applying, it’s important to understand that this is not a light retail role. You’ll spend much of every shift moving, lifting, carrying and merchandising large garden products, including our substantial new ranges of pots for spring and summer. Frequent heavy lifting, stock replenishment and handling bulky or awkward products are routine parts of the job and cannot be avoided or delegated.

Alongside assisting customers, you’ll remain active and on your feet throughout the day, keeping stock moving and displays replenished. This role will suit someone who genuinely enjoys practical, hands-on work. If you’re looking for a predominantly checkout, counter or customer service position, this is unlikely to be the right fit.

What You'll Be Doing

• Assisting customers across our Indoor Garden, Outdoor Garden and Power Garden departments
• Moving, lifting and merchandising large volumes of garden stock
• Handling oversized pots, planters, landscaping products and seasonal displays
• Replenishing stock from storage areas and inwards goods to the shop floor
• Building and maintaining promotional displays
• Maintaining high merchandising and presentation standards
• Supporting the department throughout the busy spring and summer trading period
• Following safe manual handling and health and safety practices

What We're Looking For

• Landscaping, hardscaping, labouring, construction, building supplies, trade retail or garden centre experience would be highly regarded
• A current forklift licence would be a significant advantage
• The ability to safely perform frequent heavy lifting throughout every shift
• Confidence handling large, heavy and awkward products as a routine part of the role
• The stamina to remain active and on your feet across four consecutive rostered days
• Reliability, a strong work ethic and a willingness to get stuck in
• A practical approach to work and problem-solving
• Good communication skills and confidence assisting customers
• Availability to work the permanent Sunday-to-Wednesday roster
