Retail Manager | Mitre 10 MEGA Albany


About the Role

This is a senior, high-impact Retail Manager role reporting to the Store Manager, with accountability across frontline service and a significant portfolio of departments. This is a permanent, full-time (minimum 45 hours per week), on-site role based on the North Shore (Albany, Auckland). The salary for this role is $90,000 – $110,000 per annum, depending on experience.

You’ll be leading a team of approximately 80+ in one of the country’s largest retail environments — this is leadership at real scale. You’ll own performance, lead from the front, and work closely with senior leadership to drive results across customer experience, sales, labour, and operational execution.

This role suits someone who enjoys pace and complexity — and knows how to turn that into structured, high-performing outcomes within a broad, high-volume retail environment.

Operational reality: Weekends and peak trade periods are where this role really comes to life — leading from the front, keeping standards high, and making fast, commercial decisions in a busy environment.

 

Who This Role Suits

You’re already operating at a senior level in retail and:

  • You’re comfortable leading large, layered teams
  • You understand numbers — wage %, sales, KPIs
  • You don’t avoid tough conversations — you lead through them
  • You like being on the floor, visible, and in it with your team
  • You’ve worked in big box / high-volume environments and know what good looks like
  • You would have a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, OR a relevant NZQF-Level 5 (or higher) qualification, aligned to ANZSCO Skill Level 2

 

Your Day-to-Day

  • Owning performance across multiple departments
  • Leading and developing large frontline teams and department leaders
  • Driving productivity, standards, and commercial outcomes
  • Managing rosters, wage spend, and labour optimisation
  • Using reporting and trading data to guide decisions
  • Handling complex customer escalations with sound judgement
  • Working cross-functionally with senior leaders across the store
