Retail 2IC – Mitre 10 MEGA Rotorua


Mitre 10 MEGA Rotorua is part of New Zealand’s leading home improvement and building brand. We’re passionate about helping Kiwis bring their projects to life and are seeking an experienced and engaged Retail 2IC to support store operations and deliver strong results through people, processes, and customer service.

About the Role:

This is a full-time role (40 hours per week) and includes working one weekend day.

We’re looking for a motivated and customer‑focused Retail Team Member to step into a Retail 2IC role. This position presents a fantastic development opportunity for someone ready to take the next step into leadership within a busy retail environment.

The Retail 2IC supports the Retail Zone Leader by providing day‑to‑day guidance to the team, helping assign daily tasks, and ensuring excellent customer service is delivered in line with Mitre 10 standards. This role offers hands‑on exposure to team coordination, problem‑solving on the shop floor, and contributing to a positive and productive team culture.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Retail Zone Leader in the day‑to‑day operation of the store
  • Provide on‑floor leadership by helping set daily priorities and tasks
  • Lead by example to deliver consistently high standards of customer service
  • Assist with coaching, guiding, and supporting team members
  • Step into a leadership role when the Zone Leader is absent
  • Help maintain high standards of merchandising, stock presentation, and replenishment
  • Support troubleshooting of customer and operational issues on the floor
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and team‑focused work environment
  • Ensure health, safety, and Mitre 10 policies and procedures are followed

About You:

You’ll bring strong leadership skills, a great attitude, and the ability to guide and inspire your team. You’ll be comfortable in a busy retail environment and confident making decisions that support both the team and the customer.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous retail experience, preferably in a fast‑paced or big‑box environment
  • A strong customer‑focused attitude with good communication skills
  • An interest in developing leadership skills and supporting others
  • Confidence to step up, show initiative, and make informed decisions
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to help keep the team on track
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn and grow
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to support the team
