About the Role

Whether your expertise comes from horticulture, nursery operations, landscaping, hardscaping, irrigation, or specialist garden retail, this is an opportunity to put your knowledge to work with one of New Zealand's most trusted retail brands. We're seeking someone whose expertise can help shape the customer experience, strengthen the wider team, and elevate our Garden Centre to the next level.

At Mitre 10 Whangaparaoa, customers rely on us for more than just products. They come to us for trusted advice, practical solutions, and inspiration for their next project. From helping someone select the right plants for a challenging space to supporting larger landscaping projects, you'll play an important role in delivering the expertise our customers value and expect. You'll work across a broad range of garden products and solutions while helping maintain a well-presented, inspiring, and thriving Garden Centre. This is a full-time role and includes at least one weekend day.

No two days are the same. You'll spend your time assisting customers with product selection and project advice, caring for plants and maintaining stock quality, merchandising and replenishing stock, maintaining high standards throughout the department, supporting seasonal displays and promotions, and sharing your knowledge with customers and team members.

Who We're Looking For

We recognise that great gardening expertise comes from many different backgrounds. You may currently work in a garden centre, nursery, landscaping business, horticultural environment, irrigation supplier, trade merchant, or another specialist garden-related role.

What matters most is your ability to share your knowledge, build customer confidence, and help people find the right solution for their project. We're particularly interested in candidates who bring specialist expertise in areas such as horticulture, plant care, landscaping, hardscaping, irrigation, or outdoor power garden equipment.

We're seeking someone whose expertise can help shape the customer experience and strengthen the wider team. Previous experience coaching, mentoring, or supporting less experienced team members would be an advantage.

Ideally, you'll bring:

• Strong knowledge of plants, gardening products, landscaping and/or hardscaping
• Confidence providing advice and helping customers solve problems
• A genuine passion for gardening and outdoor projects
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Initiative, energy, and a hands-on approach to work
• Good physical fitness, as lifting, moving, and replenishing stock is part of the role
