Garden Department Supervisor
Our Garden Department is a thriving, high-traffic area with a large, fast-moving product range. We’re looking for a hands-on, people-focused leader who can empower their team, keep an eye on the big picture, and drive outstanding customer service.
About the Role:
As Garden Department Supervisor, you will:
- Lead, support, and develop a team of experienced garden team members in a busy, high-turnover environment.
- Build a versatile team – ensuring all team members are trained across different areas so the department runs smoothly and customer service levels remain high.
- Ensure excellent customer service and product knowledge are delivered daily.
- Manage stock ordering, supplier relationships, and inventory across more than 10,000 product lines
- Oversee rostering to maintain strong coverage, balancing permanent schedules, seasonal fluctuations, and daily adjustments.
- Share Duty Manager responsibilities and work on a roster (this is a Tuesday to Saturday roster with a minimum 40hours a week varying from 6.30am and 6pm)
- Handle the unexpected challenges that come with retail—keeping your cool and lead by example.
About You:
You don’t just lead—you inspire and empower. You’re a problem-solver who thrives in a fast-paced retail setting and understands how to get the best out of people. To be successful, you will have:
- Strong people leadership skills—you know how to guide, motivate, and build a team.
- A passion for plants and gardening—formal horticulture experience is a plus, but an interest is essential.
- Retail experience—ideally in a big box high-traffic, high-stock-turnover environment.
- Confidence in stock management and ordering for a large complex product range.
- Ability to roster effectively and balance long-term planning with daily team needs.
- Great communication and organization skills—you stay cool under pressure and get things done.
- A can-do attitude—you take action, follow through, and ensure the details are covered without getting bogged down.
