We’re a proud, family-owned Christchurch business with a team of 200+, a strong community focus, and a fast-paced retail environment. This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll partner closely with the Store Manager and senior leaders to grow capability, strengthen culture, and build a team that truly connects with our customers.
This is a full-time permanent role and requires working one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday).
What you’ll get stuck into:
- Bringing great people into the business—leading recruitment, onboarding, and inductions
- Building a highly capable team through hands-on coaching, practical training, and development
- Driving a strong focus on customer service—helping our team build confidence in engaging with customers and delivering standout experiences
- Lifting product knowledge across the store, ensuring our team can give the right advice and add real value to every customer interaction
- Working actively on the floor alongside our team and our customers—getting to know them, understanding their needs, and leading by example
- Creating an upbeat, positive, high-performance culture where people feel motivated and supported
- Supporting and partnering with leaders on performance, engagement, and everyday people matters
- Keeping HR processes running smoothly and ensuring compliance
- Driving strong Health & Safety practices, including investigations, reporting, and continuous improvement
- Proven experience in a senior HR, People & Capability, or similar leadership role
- A strong background in retail management or fast-paced environments, with highly developed engagement and people skills
- A genuine passion for people and customers—you enjoy being present, visible, and part of the action on the shop floor
- Someone who thrives on building capability, especially around customer service and product knowledge
- A natural relationship builder who can connect, influence, and bring people along on the journey
- Solid understanding of NZ employment relations and Health & Safety
- Positive energy, initiative, and a hands-on approach
