Outside Garden Team Leader

The successful candidate will combine strong horticultural knowledge with proven leadership skills to inspire a high-performing team, deliver exceptional customer experiences, and drive outstanding department standards.

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership position within our Outside Garden Department, responsible for the day-to-day operation of the area. You'll lead by example, supporting your team to deliver expert advice, maintain excellent plant quality, and create an engaging shopping experience for our customers.

Working closely with the wider leadership team, you'll play a key role in maintaining high merchandising standards, and ensuring a safe, productive workplace.

Key Responsibilities

• Leading, coaching, and developing the Outside Garden team
• Creating a positive, customer-focused culture that delivers exceptional service
• Providing expert advice on plants, plant care, and gardening solutions
• Maintaining exceptional plant health, quality, and presentation standards
• Managing stock levels, merchandising displays, and stock rotation
• Driving sales performance and identifying opportunities for growth
• Supporting roster planning and daily team productivity
• Ensuring health and safety standards are maintained across the department
• Working collaboratively with other department leaders to achieve store goals
• Assisting with seasonal promotions, displays, and garden centre initiatives

What You'll Bring

• Previous leadership or supervisory experience in retail, horticulture, or a related industry
• Strong horticultural knowledge and a genuine passion for plants and gardening
• Experience in a garden centre, nursery, landscaping, or horticultural environment
• Excellent communication and coaching skills
• The ability to motivate, develop, and lead a team to success
• Strong organisational and time-management skills
• A customer-first mindset and a passion for delivering outstanding service
• Confidence identifying plants and advising customers on plant care and seasonal solutions
• Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Flexibility to work weekends and public holidays
