Gardens Leader – Mitre 10 MEGA New Lynn

Do you know plants, love retail and enjoy bringing out the best in a team?

We’re looking for a hands-on Gardens Leader to help drive the performance of our busy Gardens department at Mitre 10 MEGA New Lynn.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced garden-centre team leader, or a retail leader with a strong horticultural background, to take ownership of team performance, department standards and the customer experience.

🌱 About the Role

Reporting to the Garden Categories Manager, you’ll be right in the action, leading the team on the floor and ensuring the department looks great, runs smoothly and delivers results.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading, coaching and motivating the Gardens team

• Delivering outstanding service and practical product advice
• Maintaining excellent plant care, presentation and merchandising standards
• Managing stock flow, ordering, stock integrity and seasonal changeovers
• Identifying opportunities to grow sales and improve department performance
• Building team capability through training and regular feedback
• Working with suppliers to support product knowledge and merchandising
• Ensuring health, safety and operational standards are consistently met
• Supporting the wider store leadership team when required

Ideally, you’ll have a horticultural background, experience leading a team in a retail garden centre, or a strong combination of both.

You’ll also bring:

Previous retail leadership experience

• Practical horticultural and plant knowledge
• Experience managing green goods, stock and seasonal ranges
• Strong merchandising and operational skills
• Commercial awareness and a focus on achieving results
• Confidence leading, coaching and developing people
• A genuine commitment to great customer service
• A practical, organised and hands-on approach
• The flexibility and physical capability to work in an active retail environment
